The TC-K14B is a fast-response K-type thermocouple engineered for applications where rapid, accurate temperature measurement is essential. Unlike conventional sheathed thermocouples, the TC-K14B features an exposed welded-bead junction with minimal thermal mass, enabling it to detect temperature changes within fractions of a second. This makes it the preferred choice for dynamic temperature monitoring tasks in research, testing, and industrial quality control environments.
The sensor is constructed from a fine-gauge Chromel-Alumel (K-type) thermocouple wire pair, twisted together and insulated with a flexible fiberglass braid. The green-and-white color coding of the lead wire follows the international K-type thermocouple standard, providing clear polarity identification. The fiberglass insulation offers excellent thermal resistance and flexibility, allowing the sensor to be routed through confined spaces and around complex geometries without risk of insulation damage.
At the instrument end, the TC-K14B is fitted with a standard miniature K-type quick-disconnect connector (green housing, labeled 'K NiCr+ / NiAl−'), which is compatible with a wide range of handheld thermometers, data loggers, and temperature indicators that accept the IEC 60584 / ANSI miniature thermocouple connector standard. The plug-and-play design eliminates the need for field wiring, enabling rapid deployment and sensor replacement without tools or specialist knowledge.
The lead wire length is fully customizable, making the TC-K14B adaptable to installations where the measurement point is located at a significant distance from the instrument. As part of the PIDMaxWell range of temperature measurement solutions, the TC-K14B is designed to integrate seamlessly with PIDMaxWell PID temperature controllers, temperature transmitters, and compatible third-party instrumentation.

|
Fast Response Time |
The exposed welded-bead junction and fine-gauge thermocouple wire minimize thermal mass, enabling near-instantaneous response to temperature changes. This makes the TC-K14B ideal for measuring rapidly changing temperatures in dynamic processes. |
|
Exposed Junction Design |
The bare welded-bead tip provides direct contact with the measurement medium, maximizing heat transfer and response speed. This design is optimized for air, gas, and surface temperature measurements where speed is the primary requirement. |
| Miniature Quick-Disconnect Connector | The standard IEC 60584 / ANSI miniature K-type connector (green) allows for rapid, tool-free connection and disconnection from compatible instruments. The polarized design prevents incorrect insertion, protecting both the sensor and the instrument. |
| Flexible Fiberglass Lead Wire | The green-and-white fiberglass-insulated, twisted-pair lead wire is lightweight, flexible, and resistant to high temperatures, making it easy to route through tight spaces and around complex geometries without risk of insulation damage. |
| Customizable Lead Wire Length | The lead wire length can be specified to any length required by the application, from short bench-top configurations to long runs between the measurement point and the instrument. |
| Standard K-Type Compatibility | As a standard K-type thermocouple, the TC-K14B is compatible with virtually all K-type temperature instruments, including handheld thermometers, data loggers, PID controllers, and temperature transmitters. |
| Lightweight and Portable | The compact, lightweight construction makes the TC-K14B easy to carry and deploy in the field, supporting mobile temperature measurement and inspection tasks. |

Installation and Usage Notes
Junction Placement:
For accurate temperature measurement, ensure the exposed bead junction is in direct contact with or in close proximity to the surface or medium being measured. Avoid allowing the bead to contact any surface other than the intended measurement point, as this may introduce measurement errors.
Connector Polarity:
The miniature K-type connector is polarized and keyed to prevent incorrect insertion. Always connect the green (positive, NiCr+) and white (negative, NiAl−) leads to the corresponding terminals on the instrument. Reversed polarity will result in incorrect temperature readings.
Lead Wire Routing:
Avoid routing the lead wire in close proximity to high-voltage cables or strong electromagnetic fields, as this may introduce noise into the thermocouple signal. Where possible, use shielded extension wire for long runs in electrically noisy environments.
Temperature Limits:
The TC-K14B is rated for use up to 250°C. Exceeding this temperature may damage the fiberglass insulation and the miniature connector. For higher-temperature applications, please refer to the TC-K8 ceramic sheath thermocouple or contact PIDMaxWell for a suitable alternative.
Handling:
The fine-gauge thermocouple wire is delicate and should be handled with care to avoid kinking, sharp bending, or mechanical damage near the exposed junction. Inspect the sensor before each use to ensure the junction and insulation are intact.
The TC-K14B ordering code allows straightforward specification of the sensor configuration. The primary customizable parameter is the lead wire length. For the J-type variant with a miniature connector, the equivalent model is TC-J14B. Custom wire lengths and special configurations are available upon request — please contact PIDMaxWell with your specific requirements.
