How to choose proper SCR power regulator according to your application ?

SCR power regulator is heavily used in industrial application particularly heating application, to choose proper SCR, several key factors needs to be take into consideration. 

1)first thing first, figure out your source whether it is single phase or three phase, the single phase SCR is for single phase source, 3 phase SCR is for 3 phase source, like 3 phase 4 wires, 3 phase 3 wires etc. if the load is single phase, the process is quite simple, make sure you select a SCR with the current rating 2 times higher of the actual load. for example, if you have a heater with 20 amps and 240Vac load, the proper SCR would be 40 amps and 240~480Vac load

2)PIDMaxwell SCR power regulator only works for resistive load, make sure your load is resistive load like a heater, electric heater, infrared heater etc

3)Identify your source, the source would be 3 phase 380V 4 wires source, like in China, or 3 phase 4 wire 400V in germany, pinpoint the source type is very important.

4)Be very clear about the electric connection of the load, and calcuate the phase current of the system, the connection will be one type out of total 3 types,  Delta configuration, Star configuration with netural wire, star configuration without netural wire, here is detailed information on how to calculate the phase current

>For Delta connection, the phase voltage is equals to line voltage, here is a practical example, if you have a system with total power at 12KW, then each phase will be 4KW,  if the source is 380V, then the phase current will be 4000/380 = 10.5 amps, the rating of our SCR should be 2 times of the actual load, in this case, choose our SCR at 20 amps will be suitable for the application

>For Star connection , balanced load, the phase volate = Line voltage divided by 1.732, suppose your line voltage is 380V, then the phase voltage will be 380V divided by 1.732, then we can find the phase voltage= 220V , if you have a total power at 12KW, then each phase will be 4KW, the phase current = 4000 devided by 220V, phase current = 18.1, the rating of our SCR is 2 times of the phase current, choose the SCR at 36.2 amps ,
