Probe RTD sensors, adjustable length

The PT100-8 is a probe-type Platinum Resistance Thermometer (PT100 RTD) distinguished by its adjustable insertion depth — a key feature that sets it apart from fixed-length sensors. A stainless steel compression fitting is integrated into the assembly, forming a liquid-tight or pressure-tight seal against the process wall while allowing the operator to slide and lock the probe at any desired insertion depth before or after installation. This eliminates the need to specify a fixed immersion length at the time of ordering and greatly simplifies retrofitting into existing equipment.

The probe is constructed from 304 stainless steel and is available in diameters of 4 mm, 5 mm, and 6 mm. The lead cable is shielded with a metal braid and covered with PTFE insulation, delivering low noise, high mechanical strength, and excellent resistance to elevated temperatures. The PT100-8 is compatible with a wide range of process fittings — including NPT, BSP, and metric threads — and is available in a waterproof configuration, making it suitable for measuring the temperature of both air and liquids across diverse industrial environments.

The PT100-8’s adjustable insertion depth and versatile fitting options make it exceptionally well suited to applications where precise immersion control is required or where the same sensor model must serve multiple installation points with varying wall thicknesses or pipe diameters.

  • Industrial Pipelines and Vessels. The compression fitting allows the probe to be inserted to the exact centreline of a pipe or the optimal depth within a vessel, maximising measurement accuracy regardless of pipe diameter. The liquid-tight seal ensures reliable performance even under moderate process pressures.
  • HVAC and Air Handling. The sensor can be inserted into air ducts, plenums, and fan coil units at any depth to capture representative air temperature readings. Its adjustability is particularly valuable during commissioning, where optimal probe placement may need to be determined empirically.
  • Plastics and Rubber Processing. In injection moulding and extrusion, the ability to position the sensing tip at a precise depth within a heated barrel, manifold, or mould cavity is critical to process consistency.
