Generally not recommended. SiC elements exhibit a significant negative temperature coefficient – their resistance drops dramatically when cold and increases with temperature. Phase-angle control with current limiting or dedicated soft-start is highly advisable to limit inrush and extend element life. For best results, pair them with a phase-angle unit that supports current or power control.
