What is a heater break alarm (HBA) and how does it work? Jul 24

Heater break alarm continuously monitors the load current via an internal or external current transformer. By comparing the measured current with the expected value (based on the firing level), it can detect:

  • Total heater failure (zero current when output is on).
  • Partial load failure (e.g., one element open in a parallel bank), where current drops below a user-set threshold.
    This alarm can be signaled through relay outputs or communication and helps prevent unplanned downtime.
