Natural convection: For units up to roughly 50–75 A (depending on model). Suitable when ambient temperature stays within limits and the enclosure has sufficient ventilation.
Forced air (fan cooling): Above 75–100 A, almost all SCR stacks require a built-in fan. Fan speed may be thermostatically controlled. PIDMaxwell controllers monitor fan status and can trigger an alarm on failure.
Water cooling: Available for very high currents (above 500 A) or environments with high ambient temperatures.
